Coach Kathie's Story

We all have a life story.  The number of setbacks in the story is not as important as how we handle those setbacks.

I wanted to be a ballerina early in life.  But, when it was discovered that I had scoliosis (abnormal curvature of the spine), that put an end to that dream.  I'm not saying this would apply to everyone with scoliosis; but it did apply to me, then.

I then applied myself to my studies.  My parents enrolled me in a college preparatory school, and I prepared for the next chapter of my life.  I wanted to be a nurse, and help others.  This was my career for some years.  I did find, though, that the rotating shifts and lack of a real schedule was very hard on me physically.

I then worked in Personnel Management (now Human Resources), and as an Administrative Assistant.  I got further education, receiving a Master's in Physical Education (Exercise Physiology/Wellness), and a Master's in Mental Health Counseling.  I worked in the field of hypnosis and counseling for some time.

At the peak of my physical conditioning, I developed Fibromyalgia (FMS).  This was one of the biggest setbacks of my life.  I struggled and struggled with it.  I did eventually find a doctor very knowledgeable in FMS, who was able to help me from a medical standpoint.  I was able to "coach my way back" to wellness.

I would not have the unique perspective I have today if it were not for these life experiences.  And it is my hope for you that you can see that you are the person you are today, because of your unique talents, and life experiences.  No matter what you have been through, you have something of importance to offer others.  You are not alone; we all share a common bond as human beings.

I define WELLNESS as the state of optimizing your potential.  You can be in a state of wellness while working towards greater wellness.  This is the beauty of it.

And that's the long story, short.
